Paul Winter's award-winning body of work chronicles his wide-ranging experiences in the musical traditionsand natural environments of the Earth.
Winter founded LIVING MUSIC in 1980 as the recording context for his ensemble, the PAUL WINTER CONSORT, and his community of colleagues, which includes some of the world's finest jazz, classical and 'world music' musicians, along with notable voices from thegreat symphony of wildlife.
"The name 'Living Music' rang true for me", Paul explains, "sinceit alluded to our primary intentions: to strive towards timeless music;to record in natural acoustic spaces, like stone churches, canyons, or theloft of a barn; and to create a catalogue that would embrace the vital traditionsof music we revere, from Bach to Africa, and cello to wolves".
Contact with Roger Payne in the late 1960's had introduced Paul to the musicof humpback whales, and soon after he encountered the music of the wolf.These mammals opened Paul's ears to the greater symphony of nature and hiseyes to a vision of music which celebrates the creatures and cultures ofthe whole earth: Earth Music.
The Living Music label forms the recording context for Paul's ecological sound-vision, and for the music of his ensemble,the Paul Winter Consort.
Available worldwide, Living Music has released over 30 titles of Earth Music, 6 of which have received Grammy® Awards and 7 of which have been Grammy Nominees.

Winner of the Grammy Award as Best New Age Album of 2007, CRESTONE by the Paul Winter Consort celebrates the World of Crestone (The Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Great Sand Dunes, and San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado).
The Consort includes Paul Winter, soprano sax; Paul McCandless, oboe and bass clarinet; Eugene Friesen, cello; Glen Velez, percussion; Don Grusin, keyboard; Koji Nakamura, Japanese taiko drum; Peter May, conch shells; and Richard Cooke, voice. This new recording also features the voices of Mountain Bluebird, Red-winged Blackbird, Whooping Crane, Meadowlark, Sandhill Cranes, Coyotes, and Buffalo.
