A mbira player renowned for his ability to 'call the spirits', Chris has studied the mbira in the Congo and Zimbabwe. He currently teaches at the University of New Mexico and performs with his band Panjea. Playing mbira, singing and dancing, Chris first performed with Paul Winter at the Winter Solstice Celebration in New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine in December 2001, and in September 2002 he joined Paul Winter's Earth Band for a performance of The World Tree. Karan Casey The magical voice singing 'Golden Apples of the Sun' on Paul Winter's Grammy-winning CELTIC SOLSTICE, Karan Casey first performed at Paul Winter's Summer Solstice Celebration in 1996. Formerly part of Solas, Karan now performs solo. Richard Cooke A wizard inventor of unique and innovative xylophone-marimba type instruments, Richard Cooke started out playing trombone, piano and flute. With Paul Winter, he designed an adult music camp and created instruments that make music easy and fun for anyone to play. His Freenotes instruments grace the World Tree. Steve Gorn A virtuoso on the Bansuri (Indian flute), Steve can be heard on CELTIC SOUL, Nóirín Ní Riain's Living Music recording. Mickey Hart Mickey appeared with Paul Winter in Winter's special benefit Mardi Gras celebration, held at New York's Cathedral of St John the Divine in 1990, called 'Carnival for the Rainforest'. He also performed with the Paul Winter Consort in a 1977 concert at the Wilshire-Ebell Theater in Los Angeles and in December 1999 as a special guest artist at Paul Winter's 20th Annual Winter Solstice Celebration. Mickey Hart can be heard on the Living Music album JOURNEY WITH THE SUN. Sharon Isbin Sharon was a guest artist at the 1998 Winter Solstice Celebration. Paul Winter is a guest artist on her Grammy-nominated album JOURNEY TO THE AMAZON. Joanie Madden Joanie has recorded with Paul Winter on the Living Music albums CELTIC SOUL, and the Grammy-winning PETE and CELTIC SOLSTICE, as well as on the new Living Music album by Arto Tuncboyaciyan, called EVERY DAY IS A NEW LIFE. She has been a guest at several of Paul's Winter and Summer Solstice Celebrations. Zan McLeod A guest artist at Paul Winter's 1999 and 2000 Summer Solstice Celebrations, Zan appears on the Grammy-winning Living Music album CELTIC SOLSTICE as well as on the recent release JOURNEY WITH THE SUN Lucky Moyo Co-founder of the internationally acclaimed vocal ensemble, Black Umfolosi, Lucky is from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and now lives in England where he uses music as a vehicle to address environmental, human rights and other socio-political and social issues through the non-profit organization Music for Change. Lucky performed with Paul Winter for the first time at the 9th Annual Summer Solstice Celebration in June 2002. Valerie Dee Naranjo Marimbist, percussionist, vocalist, composer and musicologist who has dedicated herself to exploring the relationships between indigenous music in Africa and the Americas, Valerie is a specialist on the Gyil (jeeh-lee), featured on her recording ZIE MWEA. She first performed with Paul Winter at the Winter Solstice Celebration in New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine in December 2001, and in September 2002 joined Paul Winter's Earth Band for a performance of The World Tree. Nóirín Ní Riain Irish vocalist, Nóirín first performed with Paul Winter in 1988. Since then she has been a frequent guest with the Consort at concerts in the USA and in Europe, and she has performed at many of Paul Winter's Summer and Winter Solstice Celebrations. Nóirín's solo Living Music album is CELTIC SOUL, and she can also be heard on SOLSTICE LIVE! Jerry O'Sullivan Since they first performed together at the Summer Solstice Celebration in 1998, Uilleann Piper Jerry O'Sullivan and Paul Winter have played together on several occasions. Jerry can be heard on Living Music's CELTIC SOUL, as well as on the Grammy-winning CELTIC SOLSTICE and on JOURNEY WITH THE SUN. |
Barry Olsen Barry is a trombonist, pianist, percussionist and composer who is extensively involved in exploring, performing and recording the musics of Africa and the Americas. Playing the West African kuar, Barry can be heard on ZIE MWEA. He first performed with Paul Winter at the Winter Solstice Celebration in New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine in December 2001, and in September 2002 Barry joined Paul Winter's Earth Band for a performance of The World Tree. Niamh Parsons Irish vocalist, Niamh Parsons was a guest at Paul Winter's 1999 Summer Solstice Celebration. She can be heard on the Living Music album JOURNEY WITH THE SUN Peter, Paul and Mary The Paul Winter Consort made its first recording accompanying 'The House Song' on ALBUM 1700 by the legendary trio of Peter, Paul and Mary. Eric Rigler Piper Eric Rigler performed as a guest artist with the Paul Winter Consort and the Milwaukee and Colorado Symphony Orchestras in a program entitled 'Celtic Soul', featuring Kathy Cowan, in February and March 2000, and joined the Consort again in June 2002 at the Prairie Fest in Arkansas. Cathie Ryan Cathi was a guest at Paul Winter's 1997 Summer Solstice Celebration. Pete Seeger Pete's Grammy-winning Living Music album PETE features Paul Winter and many Consort members and friends. Luciana Souza Brazilian singer Luciana Souza was a guest artist at Paul Winter's Solstice Celebration in December 2000 as well as a member of the Earth Band performing with Paul Winter and the Boston Pops in May 2001 in a concert recorded by PBS for television broadcast. Davy Spillane Uilleann Piper Davy Spillane first performed with Paul Winter at the 1997 Summer Solstice Celebration. He is a guest artist at Paul Winter's 25th Anniversary Winter Solstice Celebrations in December 2004 and is featured on the Grammy-winning Living Music album CELTIC SOLSTICE as well as on JOURNEY WITH THE SUN Noel Stookey 'Paul' of Peter, Paul and Mary, Noel Stookey produced the first two albums by the Paul Winter Consort recorded for A&M: THE WINTER CONSORT and SOMETHING IN THE WIND. Theresa Thomason Gospel singer Theresa Thomason has been performing with Paul Winter for many years. She frequently performs the Earth Mass with Paul Winter and the Consort, and is a guest artist at Paul Winter's 25th Anniversary Winter Solstice Celebrations in December 2004. Arto Tuncboyaciyan Armenian percussionist and vocalist, Arto has been a regular guest at the Winter and Summer Solstice Celebrations since his first appearance with Paul Winter at the 1998 Summer Solstice Celebration, and has frequently joined the Consort as percussionist at other concerts. His debut US album, called EVERY DAY IS A NEW LIFE, has been released by Living Music. Tuncboyaciyan can also be heard on the Living Music album JOURNEY WITH THE SUN.
